My name is Melissa and I am on a mission:

To ignite the world with color and celebrate the extraordinary uniqueness of every individual.

This is my story…

Unique Custom Threads is the culmination of a 20+ year creative journey that began, simply enough, with childhood days spent poring over fashion magazines back in my native Illinois.

Fashion may have been my first love, but it was not the first step in my journey.

After moving to North Carolina and earning my Associate’s Degree in Fine Arts, I experimented with all different kinds of art and techniques.

In 2020, as the Covid 19 lockdowns began, I countered their doom and gloom with a new style of painting based on bold, vibrant colors, Batik influences, and a compulsion to spread joy.

This style earned me awards and solo exhibitions. It landed me a spot as a member of the excellent ArtPop Street Gallery Cities Program, and -as luck would have it- it also caught the attention of my future friend and mentor, Rita Miles of Charlotte Seen.

Through Charlotte Seen, I made my Charlotte Fashion Week debut in 2022, and haven’t looked back since.

Inspired by the same desire to spread joy through creativity that helped me as an artist, I launched Unique Custom Threads looking to inspire people to defy the ordinary and let their light shine.

Several runways later, I’m gearing up to present my Fall 2024 designs on runways at Charlotte Fashion Week 2024 and New York Fashion Week.
